Beautiful bench! I too have building a door on my list, not because I'm particularly fascinated by it. More so because my house has more than a few custom wooden doors from the 1970s that have seen better days. Some need repair, but many are falling apart and I think just need to be built anew. If you do get around to making a door, I will be interested to see how it goes for you.
It’s (unfortunately) a little low on the list, and I need to do more research RE code requirements, but when I get to it, it’s definitely something I’ll write about. Good luck with your doors!
Bench looks good, great proportions. I just want to warn you that on doors that access house from garage usually have to have a fire rating, but not sure what that entails.
That’s an excellent point, thank you. I had to do a ton of research regarding IRC requirements when I tore the garage down to its studs to remodel. Even emailed the city’s building inspector to make sure I understood everything correctly. I appreciate you looking out.
It involves some trigonometry (particularly the inverse tangent) to calculate rake and splay. Then I found an online calculator that will convert rake and splay to sighting and resultant angle. It’ll be easier to edit the post and add some pictures (and a link to the calculator), so look for that in a day or so.
Beautiful bench 👏👏. I have one of these on my bucket list as well. I would also like to try my hand at doors and sash windows, for no other reason than I love the joinery. Plus a table with traditional joinery, staked high stools, a wall hanging tea cabinet and a large dovetailed chest. I look forward to seeing it the rest of your bucket list when made.

Love the bench! And it’s fun to see what other folks are wanting to make. I recently added a rocking chair to my list of things to make.
Nice! I bet that’ll be a fun one.

Amazing piece! With all the tapering it's really quite elegant.
I'd love to know more on how you calculated the angles for the legs.

Added another sketch and some explanation. Hope it helps, but let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks so much for taking the time to do that! 😄 Very helpful

Same to you, Dave!
